BASIC TREATMENT PLAN PARTS:
- Perspective
- Detox program
- Basic Diet Recommendations
- Exercise
- Faith Protocol
- Supplementation: Essentials
PERSPECTIVE
Stress relief is imperative if your Hypertension has a foundation in work related stress issues or emotional stress issues.
DETOX PROGRAM
The client needs to FIRST do a complete DETOX by drinking a wide variety of vegetable juices that include things such as apples, bok choy (Chinese cabbage), carrots, onions, leafy greens, apricots, cranberries, melon/cantaloupe, papayas and SOME red grapes.
This should be done for THREE WHOLE DAYS and client should limit intake of meat (preferably not have any) during this period.
BASIC DIET RECOMMENDATIONS
The following suggestions will make a real difference in your blood pressure and overall wellbeing.
- A diet high in fibre is an excellent way to control or reverse high blood pressure.
- Your meals should be based on fresh, raw vegetables, whole grains such as oats. Include beans, nuts and seeds in your eating plan.
- Dehydration increases hypertension – so ensure client drinks a glass of clean water every 2 hours they are awake.
- Lower intake of salt (no junk food – crisps, salted nuts, biltong etc.) and increase consumption of potassium.
- A combination of excess sodium and a deficiency in potassium has been found in many people with hypertension.
- Good sources of potassium include apples, asparagus, cabbage, oranges, tomatoes, bananas, kelp (ascophllum nodosum) and alfalfa.
- In fact – encourage your clients to sprout their own and put it on EVERYTHING they eat. Not only decreases their risk of cancer due to the high intake of Hydrazine Sulfate, but it turns “dead” meals into “live” ones.
- Alfalfa sprouts are the best sprouts as they contain ALL the nutrients one needs for a balanced meal.
- Apples are superfoods for people with high blood pressure. Not only do they have high levels of potassium, they are also a good source of pectin which is an excellent soluble fibre.
- Onions, garlic and parsley have been shown to bring down blood pressure so encourage clients to make use of them in their meal plans. They not only add flavour to vegetarian meals but the client can take advantage of their healing properties if they use them daily.
- Celery has been shown in animal studies to reduce blood pressure - eat up to 4 stalks a day.
The key to balance your body's pH level is by carefully planning your meal according to this principle
Vegetables - 65% to 75%
Fruits - 15% to 20%
Whole grains like brown rice - 10%
Proteins - 5% to 10%.
You can vary the amount slightly but do your best to follow this principle as closely as possible.
To ensure that you have a wide variety and sufficient nutrients that cover your body's needs, change your vegetables and fruits on your table every week.
Another rule of thumb is to make your meals as colorful as possible. You may also want to go for organic produce because it contains much more nutrients and free from pesticides. Here are some of the examples of vegetables you should get (organic)
- Cabbage
- Corn
- Tomatoes
- Spinach
- Cucumber
- Pumpkin
- Mushrooms
- Avocado
- Beetroot
- Lettuce
- Celery
- Wheat grass
- Broccoli
- Sprouts
- Bitter gourd
- Black beans
- Asparagus
- Lotus root
- Garlic
- Potatoes
- Ginger
- Water chestnut
- Sea weed
- Lady finger
- Long beans
- Cayenne pepper
FRUITS – preferably organic and fresh
- Papaya (for organic papayas, eat the seeds too because they are full of enzymes)
- Bananas
- Apples
- Pears
- Watermelons
- Lemons and limes
- Dragon-fruit
- and many more...
Whole grains, you may want to get
- Organic brown rice
- Oat
- Sprouted grains
- Whole wheat
PROTEINS
We would advocate going more vegetarian because meat proteins are hard to digest and most vegetables have sufficient proteins for our body. If you are thinking that vegetarians are lacking important vitamins like B12, vegetarians would need to eat a wide variety of vegetables and that would do the job.
For instance, mushrooms contain B12. Not only that meat is very acidic… especially red meat, but based upon the metabolic type that you are, you may require meat a few times per week. The secret lies in moderation.
- If you really still want to continue with meat, choose white meat (like chicken and fish) instead of red meat (like beef and pork) and game.
- You definitely want to give up red meat AND pork.
- If you can, choose organic meat as well. Nowadays, the farmers inject antibodies into these animals to prevent them from spreading diseases because they are kept in a small confined area.
FOODS TO AVOID:
- People with high BP generally benefit from restricting their intake of salt.
- Salt CONTAINS sodium which causes water retention and increases the pressure inside the arteries. It is NOT enough to simply stop using table salt; you must also cut our all processed and packaged foods as well as smoked meats and cheeses as they are LOADED with sodium.
- Saturated, hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats cause high blood pressure and place a terrible burden on your arteries and heart. Eliminate all animal products, margarine, butter, shortening and refined vegetable oils from your diet.
- Sugar is linked to hypertension. If you do not eat packaged or processed foods you should also avoid sugary baked goods and even LIMIT your intake of foods that are sweetened naturally.
- Overindulgence in caffeine is a cause of high blood pressure so cut back on intake of coffee, fizzy drinks (coke etc.) chocolates and caffeinated teas.
- Allow yourself no more than ONE alcoholic beverage a day - the choice should be limited to red wine or whisky - IF you absolutely must have a drink.
EXERCISE
Golden Rule: Find the boundaries of what you can do and then stay within them. Both trying to do too much, or pulling back and doing too little are counter productive. Limit setting is probably the most important thing you can do.
Patients are very susceptible to push-crash phenomena and you need to learn to stay within certain boundaries. To the extent you do that, you will tend to do better. To the extent you don't, you likely will not do well.
Aerobic Training: Beyond certain limits this cannot be attempted until you are much improved. Be cautious about any aerobic exercise (any sustained activity, such as running, walking, or swimming, designed to raise the heart rate and increase oxygen flow throughout the body).
The aerobic system is injured and reactive oxygen species (free radicals) generated in the mitochondria by excessive training may not be detoxified with resulting injury which can potentially be permanent (DNA damage). Walk, cycle or swim only as much as your body will allow, no more than 20 minutes, three times per week.
PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
Although we prefer natural means of restoring balance in the body, we understand that most clients come to us on an entire drug regimen. The ideal situation is to get the client to SLOWLY reduce their drugs and lead a healthier lifestyle which will restore balance to the body until they can completely stop using the medication.
FAITH DROPS PROTOCOL:
Do a liver detox and follow the protocol as indicated for the oral dosage of Faith Drops.
SUPPLEMENTATION: ESSENTIALS
SUPPLEMENTS:
- Calcium and Magnesium: studies have shown that these supplements lower blood pressure. Take a combination of at least 500mg of calcium and 250mg of magnesium twice daily. The brand they choose should have the calcium and magnesium ratio as a 2:1.
- Coenzyme Q10: Again studies show this nutrient reduces blood pressure. Take 100mg two - three times daily.
- Fish Oil: Fish oil reduces blood pressure when taken on a long-term basis. Take 3,000mg three times daily. Make sure the brand you choose has a high EPA value.
- Potassium: This mineral has been shown in repeated studies to lower blood pressure. Take as part of a salt-substitute product. Otherwise use up to 2,000mg under the supervision of a doctor. DO NOT use if you are taking a potassium-sparing diuretic medication or have kidney disease or serious heart disease.
Probiotics are essential in replacing the healthy microflora of the intestinal tract that are killed off as the unhealthy microflora, bacteria, parasites, yeast, etc. multiply and set up the intestinal permeability that causes so many systemic problems or are as a result of chemicals put into the body in the form of drugs.
A good product will contain acidophilus, bifidus, bifidum, rhamnosus, etc. Around 10 billion organisms is a good daily dose. Though important at any time, it is critical to take probiotics if you are taking antibiotics.
NOTE: Antioxidants are especially important even though you may not notice any significant improvement in current symptoms. We believe they can prevent permanent damage caused by free radicals (oxidative stress) and increase the possibilities of a good recovery in the future.
OTHER IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENTS
Having a good gut function and ecology will ensure that the nutrients taken in as food are processed in the body correctly thereby helping to restore balance throughout the body systems. It is vital to keep your gut functioning correctly to aid the body in repairing itself.
We recommend digestive enzymes - in South Africa we suggest Enzyme Process Digeszyme-V and a good probiotic. The Faith Probiotic is also available - but any good preferably liquid probiotic will suffice.
Digestive Enzymes can greatly improve digestion and improve gut ecology and function. They will also improve energy, since they assist with energy intensive digestion, allowing more energy for other uses. One to three caps with each meal are recommended. Some patients respond best to animal enzymes, others to plant enzymes.
Only trial and error can determine which is best. Betaine HCL is important to add to certain acid dependent digestive enzymes so that they work better. Too much causes diarrhea and too little causes reflux heartburn.
